SAD evaluates every project opportunity, whether it originates from within or outside the community, on the basis of the following guidelines:
  • Does it fit in with SAD’s mission of empowering local people and contributing to sustainable development?

  • How does it rank in terms of our priorities?

  • Is SAD the most appropriate local organisation to undertake the project?

  • Do we have adequate human resources to manage the project effectively, within the budget and the time frame? If not, what capacity building needs to be done in order to undertake the project?

  • Is the project sustainable beyond the initial project funding?

Our completed projects reflect a conscious decision to step carefully, but surely and confidently, towards the achievement of our goals, rather than launching ourselves willy-nilly at every project opportunity that presents itself. Much of the first two years of our existence was dedicated to preparing the groundwork and the foundations for SAD and the M2M Network to manage the major projects they are preparing to undertake in 2003 [see 2003 Projects], in conjunction with an ongoing emphasis on CAPACITY BUILDING.
